About the RTI Act

The Right to Information (RTI) Act, 2005 empowers citizens to request information from public authorities, ensuring transparency, accountability, and good governance. Educational institutions that are funded, recognized, or affiliated by the government fall under Section 2(h) and are required to disclose information proactively under Section 4(1)(b), unless exempted under Section 8 of the Act.

Compliance by Universities and Colleges

  • The University Grants Commission (UGC) mandates that all universities and colleges funded by it must comply with RTI provisions.

  • Institutions must appoint a Public Information Officer (PIO) to handle RTI applications and queries.
